Better late than never, right?

25th April is ANZAc Day, it marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. Read more about the day and the traditions here.

Harry and I got up early in the morning to catch the train to the city to watch the march that started 10am. This is a fraction of people who marched, the whole thing went on for at least two hours.

On Saturday went to the city and saw The Clash of the Titans. In 3D. This could've been so much better. Also, The Clash of the Titans in 15 minutes, that pokes fun at everything that was wrong with it.

Also, a couple of weekends before we went to see The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, in Swedish. (And we were wondering if [info]neamaria could tell us how to pronounce the name "Noomi Rapace", if you ever come by, plzthx :P) Afterwards I read the book, too, with some 3 days. Book's better.

The weekend before last, or the Easter weekend, we went to the coast to celebrate Easter with Harry's extended family. Played lots of games, ate lots of bakery food and got wet in the ocean a couple of times. And swam in the pool because it was nice and children-free at the time.

Pictures, too, although they mostly feature lots of sand and blue sky, because I don't like taking pictures of people.

My visa got granted! I can now work unrestricted if I choose to, travel overseas and re-enter Australia and study. For longer than 4 weeks, which the previous visa had restricted.

Huzzah!

I burnt my pot. Really burnt. I put some beetroot to boil and then got distracted by internet. An hour later I smell something slightly burning, I figure someone must be cooking dinner. The burning smell gets stronger and I suddenly realise it's my beetroot! All the water had evaporated and the pot is burnt. No idea if the beetroot is any good but I'll let it cool down and then see. Same with the pot.

Brisbane's having a European film festival this week (and last weekend) so we kept ourselves busy with it. On Saturday saw Recipes for Disaster, a Finnish documentary in which a family tries to live a year without plastic of any other oil-based product. A good one, although Johnny (the starter of the project) seems bit of a prat sometimes.
Had dinner at a nice Italian restaurant (Pizza Margharita for me, Harry had his usually Seafood Pasta)totally worth it, then took the CityCat to the city and had dessert in a cafe (Lemon Tart for me, Banoffie Pie for Harry), so not worth it. The pies for both of us cost as much as one main meal in the Italian place. At least we'll know the next time.

Yesterday we saw two movies on the Festival, the first one was Portuguese, about Christopher Columbus, which was a bit of a disaster. The only thing I learnt from this is that Columbus might've possibly been born in a Portuguese village called Cuba. Nothing else made sense.
Then we had a couple of hours to kill, which we spent reading books and eating ice cream.
Kit and Anne joined us for the second one, this time French movie called Girl from Monaco. I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about it, so visit Harry ([info] for (lengthier) reviews.

Very loud thunder. Very loud. Usually when we have storms it's just lightning but this is friggin' loud.

Chinese New Year

[info]gliriolielin
Tomorrow the Chinese New Year will begin, so we thought why not go and see what do they do in Chinatown today/tomorrow. Today's schedule suited us better, so we had breakfast and took the train to the Valley/Chinatown.

At noon Lion Dance and Chinese Martial Arts Display started, and that was really the only thing we wanted to see.

After that Lion Dance we decided to have some cold drinks (it was meltingly hot today) and had lunch in a Singaporean/Malaysian restaurant. Harry figured we should eat something Asian because we were in Chinatown in the beginning of the Chinese New Year and we felt like having some Singaporean food in us again. Was delicious.
